WHOSE DAD: The Setup
Summer in the Delta is all about the smell of popcorn and BBQ, splashing in the neighbor’s pool, vintage rock + a little bit Country. It could not be any more different than the foggy shores of home, but there we were celebrating Father’s Day! Many moons ago, I shared this house with my brother, and it was a tumultuous time to say the least. I never thought I would return to sleeping under this roof, but things have changed.
He is a Dad now and the permanent resident, running his little kingdom in an efficient and pleasurable manner. He cooks and gardens and has more hummingbirds than is really fair
And I have found a haven in coming to visit, with the great music and secrets only siblings can contain. It is a suprise to be happy and content in a town that did not take kindly to me (and vice versa). Most of all, he has learned to cook some cool things, and keeps the best stocked refrigerator of any man I know!
On Father’s Day, one of his daughter’s friends surprised us with a late night visit. She brought him a gift and told him that he was her hero! He did not know what to say, except thanks. She loves him for the days of her rebellion when he helped her to stay alive! I had to tease him and say “whose Dad are you, anyway?”
